Talent TreesThe Rift class trees determine which talents go into a particular Rogue build.

Combat: Whereas Assassination and Subtlety focus on high burst surprise damage, the Combat tree allows for sustained DPS. Rather than waiting for powerful openers and relying on stealth, the combat builds allow players to simply run up to their opponents and hack them away with their swift combos. Because of this and other talents, most players choose this tree for leveling their characters.

Assasination: The Rogue’s finishing moves are the trademarks of this talent tree alongside solid burst damage and critical hits. If you’re going deep into this tree, you’re likely to end up spending at least 41 talent points to go as deep as mutilate, which is quite likely the best rogue talent there is.

Multilate: Mutilate is a very lethal talent although one that is very demanding. It deals significantly higher damage than Backstab, which by itself can deal very impressive damage, and works more effectively on poisoned targets. Combined with other talents and you’ll get what could be the talent that will finish off even the most protected class in one massive blow. Not only that, this talent also earns combo points as well as the chance of to crit on both daggers (the talent requires Rogues to be equipped with two daggers). And it only gets better as you go as far as the final tier of the Assassination tree.

In many builds specializing in Mutilate, poisons become a hot consideration. If you don’t rely on poisons, any build based on this tree may not be to your taste. Otherwise, you can go as deep as Improved Poison.

Subtlety: Dishing out some really powerful surprise attacks is the name of the game for Subtlety Rogues. If you go about wading into battle, screaming ‘For the Horde!’, this tree isn’t the perfect choice for you. This is recommended for players who have enough patience to hide in the shadows before delivering massive blows to their opponents. You can call this the assassin’s tree if there weren’t the Assassination tree since it deals mostly with surprise attacks.

This tree is focused on enhancing a character’s capacity to move fast and stay hidden. Once an opening comes, the combo points flow like crazy. And if in the process anything goes awry, this tree also provides a few face-saving strategies.

Talents like Premeditation, Shadowstep, Serrated Blade, Deadliness and Initiative make this tree the best Rogue tree for PvPing. This is also the talent tree that may be useful for players gearing for the battlegrounds. The addition of Honor Among Thieves makes this tree a good choice for questing in dungeons as well as end-game raids.

You see, the class is synonymous to ‘Corpse Camping’. With the array of lethal talents offered by any Rogue build, a Rogue is quite easily a character to be feared in battle. Be it leveling, melee, PvE or PvP.

About the Author

The best part of being a Rogue is its versatility. It can switch between PvE to PvP to leveling without a need to alter play style, gears, weapons, or Rogue build for that matter unlike so many other classes.
